Kundalini Yoga is a holistic form of Yoga embracing body, mind and spirit.  It stems from the Tantric philosophy which pre-dates the Classical Yoga of Patanjali’s Sutras.  Tantra is a holistic approach to the study of the universal from the point of view of the individual: the study of the macrocosm through the study of the microcosm.

Kundalini yoga is sometimes called the Mother yoga, for it contains elements of all the different aspects of yoga: Hatha yoga (physical postures), Raja yoga (meditation), Karma yoga, (selfless service), and Bhakti yoga, (devotion). Kundalini Yoga also uses mantra, has a great deal of focus on breathing patterns (pranayama), and using the body locks (bandhas). It is considered to be one of the quickest ways to change and elevate consciousness. As practiced under the guidance of Yogi Bhajan’s teaching, it is a complete and safe system for personal transformation. Though it contains mostly all yoga postures found in Hatha yoga, Kundalini Yoga also has hundreds of others postures and exercises that work on activating the body systems, the energy centres (chakras) and give good health to the body and mind.

Yogi Bhajan has given yoga sets, called Kriyas, which work in specific ways on the body and mind.  The word “kriya” means “action.” But kriya is not just any action. It is an action that leads to a complete manifestation--that lets a thought come into actuality, a desire become a commitment.  Kundalini yoga Kriyas are usually a sequence of postures, breath and sound that are integrated together to allow the manifestation of a particular state, although a Kriya may be just one posture, breath practice or meditation technique.

An important aspect of Kundalini Yoga is the concept of the ten energetic bodies.  For the most part, people identify with the physical body and think of themselves in physical terms, or at best, as a physical body and a mind.  In Kundalini Yoga, we believe that there are ten bodies – six energy bodies, three mental bodies and the physical body.  The ten bodies are powerful capacities of the psyche.  Each body has specific gifts that manifest when strong and deficit tendencies that surface when weak.  Each body can be strengthened by identifying the body that is out of balance and practicing using the appropriate tool.  Yogic numerology is used in Kundalini Yoga to identify each person's individual tendencies and a personal program is given as a result.  The root of all disease first exists in one of the energy bodies before it manifests outwardly.  Therefore, by strengthening and balancing all of the bodies, our overall health will improve.

Practicing Kundalini Yoga keeps your body in shape and trains your mind to be strong and flexible when faced with stress or change.  Oxygen capacity and circulation are improved, your nervous system is strengthened and stress-induced hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline are balanced.  The effect is a heightened self-awareness and vitality that allows you to harness your mental and emotional energy to feel more in control of yourself, with enhanced peace of mind, concentration, self-confidence and inner calm.

One-on-one Kundalini Yoga instruction based on your needs, learning style and Yogic numerology, allows for a personalised experience that can be maintained with a home practice.  An initial commitment of 40 days is ideal to allow for a fuller transformative experience.  As part of your personalised practice, you will receive your Yogic numerology and an initial session of up to two hours.  At least three further individaul sessions are recommended, spaced one to two weeks (maximum) apart, with e-mail and telephone support available.  A journal is also during this time to allow you to reflect on your journey at the end of the initial 40 day period.  There is flexibility if more support or individual sessions are required.

Yoga in Education

Samadhi Yoga offers develops health/wellness programmes and resources that utilise the physiological, emotional and educational benefits of yoga.  When children are taught to regularly assess and address their state of mind and body, and have tools to support their own health and well-being, they gain a sense of empowerment.  This leads to improved concentration and focus, a sense of calm and peace that contributes to more responsible behaviour choices.  Postures aid in co-ordination and flexibility, breathing exercises aid in mental balance and games involving trust and co-operation enhance teamwork.

Benefits come from consistent and regular practice which may be weekly, fortnightly or monthly.
